"And finally, this question...The mystery of whose story it will be...Of who draws the curtain. Who is it that chooses our steps in the dance? Who drives us mad, lashes us with whips and crowns us with victory when we survive the impossible? Who is it...that tells all these things?
Who honors those we love for the very life we live? Who sends monsters to kill us and at the same
time sings that we'll never die? Who teaches us what's real and how to laugh at lies? Who decides why we live and what we'll die to defend? Who chains us and who holds the key that can set us free?
It's you."
- Sucker Punch
Well, I changed the name of my blog. I think there needs to arise a new model of bad-assery and it needs to be one of the awakened soul. I find the person who has the courage to go within and live life in a free, abundant, loving-kindness, awakened and creative way is a "Bad Ass". I know the word Bad Ass isn't politically correct but I can not find a better word to describe it. So if it offends you I am truly sorry, but then I would ask you to choose another perspective besides being offended due to a word. Make another choice.
:-)
As promised yesterday I said I would share some ways to change perspective. I did share a few yesterday but I will go into more detail here.
1. SHUT YOUR MOUTH!
Yes, bold I know, but it is hard to see new perspective if your mouth is running always thinking several steps ahead of others so we can be understood. We all feel obligated to be understood, to attack others, to defend ourselves, to "engage". We were never taught how to properly communicate in truly effective ways so until you learn how to, shut up and open your ears and eyes. (This does not mean you automatically adopt what you see and hear as your truth) And if you need to communicate, communicate simply. "Thank you, Your welcome, I love you, Okay, Yes, No, etc." Simplify your communication which brings me to #2.
2. PEOPLE WATCHING
A great way to train your mind to see new perspective is to people watch. Not people judge, people watch. My favorite place is to go to a coffee shop, put my headphones on with some good relaxing music and just watch people. See how they act, their body language, their expressions and try and feel people, feel their energy. In time you will start to see things differently, and a big thing will happen, you will start to lose judgement. (That is a good thing)
3. THE OTHER SHOES
I believe we are all connected and what I do to you I do to myself due to this connection. So if there is no end to me and no beginning to you, I need to start seeing things like that. I am you and you are me. What you experience, I experience, what you feel, I feel, etc. (Empathy) start to see yourself in others. Say to yourself "I am that." If you see someone angry, know that is within yourself and be understanding. While people watching, literally try and see the room from the other persons position. This will continue the training of your mind to see a new perspective.
4. BE REAL, BE GENUINE
A big step in learning how to see things differently is to see things how they are. Stop lying to yourself and reasoning and making excuses. If you are lazy then say it and accept it and open your eyes to possibilties of not being lazy. Most people close thier eyes, put their fingers in their ears and yell "RAINBOW BRITE, RAINBOW BRITE!!!" Denial never served anyone in life, it is a form of complacency and delayed suffering. But life is expansive and you better look out, life has a way of waking up those in denial. So be real with yourself. Start to fall in love with yourself. The lack of self love is truly the root of all suffering. Want a new perspective on yourself. Go in the bathroom and look in the mirror directly into your eyes for 1 minute. It will probably be uncomfortable but push through it. Once you do this, do it with someone else...that will really push your comfort level but you will experience something new, that I promise.
5. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG
I am sure right there some of you put your fingers in your ears, closed your eyes and started yelling "RAINBOW BRITE, RAINBOW BRITE!!!". But I want you to consider this new perspective and move away from denial. Stop looking at things as right or wrong and start looking at things as what works and what doesn't work. If you are trying to transcend your thought process and be progressively minded, guilt and shame are not good bed fellows. You drop the guilt and shame when you drop the right or wrong mentality. Morality got you this far in life, do not condemn it, transcend it. Jesus did. The Jews were a moralistic society and when Jesus showed up he invited them to transcend that thinking and just love each other. There is no right or wrong with loving, it just works. This will also help with judging others.
All of these and more will start to help you train your mind to open up and to see more. It will feel like a lie at times and you will be afraid you are losing control at other times. Push through it. Find the will power to break old habits and find new ones that work for you.
If you have questions or want me to write on something specific, let me know, I am always open to suggestions. Have an amazing day!!!
